Quick question for anyone with a Mk6 with rear view camera... does the camera only come out when operated?  I have just seen a Mk6 in a showroom and looked for the camera but didn't find it when lifting the VW badge at the back. The salesman said that the car does have one but that you cannot see it just by lifting the VW Badge...  Any ideas?

The camera pops out when you select reverse, the VW badge flips up and the camera can be seen underneath.

Can't see it until you put the car into reverse mate.

Since there is already a RVC topic, will post in here...
When you retrofit the RVC camera, the old badge has a two pin connector just for the switch, while the new camera badge has four pins, I assume for the switch, power and reverse signal?
Question is, does the new badge need power to operate the opening switch?

I ask because I connected the four pin connector, and then joined it to the current two pin connector, before laying the wiring all the way to the front for the power and reverse signal (Yes, I know you can get it direct from the lights, but prefer to do it the long way). BUT, the boot does not open now when i press the badge, which I would expect it to do. So I wanted to check before I went further.

Also, what is the correct way of joining to power? I assume it would be best to have a fuse at the fuse box, but would I then need to remove the whole fuse box?

Any help appreciated!

Will also have to ask how to connect the camera feed when I get that far.

sigh! also struggling to remove all the trim.
Got lower tail gate trim after a battle, and managed to break a small part at the top where it threads through the upper trim aprt.
As for upper trim part, cannot see what is holding it in.

Then got to take the trim out from inside as far as I can see...but it has an airbag so not to keen to go crashing about.
sigh, I'm feeling rather low  confused

Hi Steve
Can you shed some light on something...
Just purchased a kufatec RVC camera retrofit.

1. The RVC camera itself (5K0 827 469 AP) has a slanted rainpipe, rather than the normal straight rainpipe I've seen on the net. Means the outlet pipe needs to bend at a sharp angle, and was difficult to fit. I think it's not meant for a mk5/6

2. Also, the edges of the badge are straight, rather than  rounded edge / bevel of the other RVC camera's I've seen

3. Seems the camera needs to use a third party module to work. The wiring from the camera, Video eatch & Live, Positive and ground connect to pin 1,2,5 and 14 of the RNS Multi-pin connector 5, audio and video, 26-pin, which seem to be unassigned pins or reserved for debugging. My guess is that they get routed through the RNS510, then back out to the Multimedia Module from Kufatec, then back in through the other pins.

It seems the later versions of the camera have the controller built in. Does it use canbus?

The Kufatec kit uses a Passat CC Camera IIRC rather than the correct Golf 6 one.

You also don't need a control module if you use the correct camera, I have also heard reports that the image quality of the Kufatec adapter is worse than the OEM solution too.

Dammit - thanks Steve
Unfortunately I am not liking it much - already thinking of getting the new badge with the built in controller.

Thanks mate - yup, please PM me a price. Best I've seen thus far is Car Systems or whatever ebay shop for GBP 329 although it did include the co-ax cable and harness.

New harness has what looks to be an earth wire going all the way to the front...but cannot figure out why you would need that. Earth is earth, right? why not earth it in the boot lid??
And can't you just use the earth from the boot lid switch??
Much confusion...

and the harness has the plugs on already...so no way to thread it through the tailgate boot. Gotta take one end off for the RNS side, or the other. Any idea how the terminals in the plugs that fit into the camera come loose?

The only things that need to be feed through are the 12v live and the video cable, everything else comes from the existing wires in the boot  happy2

Hi Steve
Got any pics of what the terminal on the end of the pwoer wire should look like. The two harness I have have different terminals and I want to see which is the right one before taking out the fuse box to connect it.

Also want to find a clip that I can use to connect the reverse wire - seem I need to unplug the current one, use a two wire clip to 'bridge' the reverse signal to the light without using a parasite join which looks very un-OEM, but for this I need to first figure out what the current reverse wire terminal looks like so I can find the appropriate (opposite) terminal and clip...

Which power wire do you mean?

Have a look at my Mk5 Camera guide and see if that method to see if the way I do the reverse pick-up is what your looking for and if so I will dig out the part numbers for doing the same on the Mk6 wiring.
