Thinking of swapping the standard RCD310 for a RNS 510 unit.
It looks to be a strait swap with some coding needed for the MFD and steering control.
Are there any issue to look out for?
Any issues getting to the radio? can I use a strong plastic knife, or should I try and make a custom removal tool like VW seem to have?

Also thinking of adding the MDI port. Seems there are two options - the full box that fits in between the seets in the CD changer space, or a simpler cable (5NO 057 342) that you can run into the glove box.
Given that we don't have the CD cahnger option, I guess I would either need to change the whole thing in between the seats, or just do with the cheaper "retrofit" kit.

Also been looking at getting the bluetooth module (1Z0 035 729 E), but seems to be a bit complicated to install, and maybe other better options.

Any feedback appreciated!

The bluetooth kit is pretty easy to install it just takes a bit of time.

The MDI glovebox version is the much easier option as you say you need to replace the armrest base cover and the ducting to the rear vents.  happy2

Thanks Steve
Have ordered the glovebox version as the costs of changing the armrest and rear vent cover is rather steep.

Re the Bluetooth - do you know if it links nicely to the RCD310 head unit, or only the RCD510 / RNS510?
Where is the unit fitted when ordered with the vehicle? Suppose that would be the best place to put it.

The bluetooth goes under the drivers seat.

Have a look here for an install guide http://www.octavia-vrs.com/technical/bluetooth.html

Not sure on the functionality on the RCD-310, Does it have a phone button?

Otherwise you can use the kit via the MFD.

wow, looks like quite a job I've landed myself.
Well seeing as though I'm being silly, might as well swap the 310 for RNS510 then...
Idea of ripping up trim does not fill me with joy  scared

It looks worse than it is. I fitted a Reverse Camera in a Mk5 today which takes about the same amount of trim removal and as long as you take your time and use proper trim removal tools it's an OK job  happy2

Thanks for the guide - Wonder how similar install is on Mk6.
Would like to also get the neat trim bits to make it all neat and tidy so wonder if part numbers the same.

Dammit! Just saw you had a 730 kit available. ARGH! (or did you sell it already anyway?)

What is the difference between 729 and 730? I've got a nokia E72, so the 730 might have been the better choice.

Weird, looking at your pics, I see the 730 unit says "ICASA" on it, which is the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa. Wonder if we manufacture it here....
