Parts arrived!
From reading about the place, some folks seem to mention using code 15 at byte 18 for newer models. Mine manufactured Feb '10, so wonder if I need to use 15 instead of 4. Oh well, one way to find out!!

Edit: Seems using 15 might make the inner lights light up under braking too...

Mine is a Feb/March car and I too had problems with VCDS and coding.
I got round it by copying the long coding, changing the relevant values (oo to 04) and saving.
It worked fine that way - but the long coding helper wouldn't work.

Incidentally, here's an odd thing:
Std Xenons + lights in 'auto' + dayight = front Xenons on and rear lights on all the time as DRLs.
Std Xenons + LED rears (Byte 18 set to 04) + lights in 'auto' + daylight = front Xenons and no rear lights...
Turn the lights to either sidelights or main lights and the rears come on.

Odd...but better!
I never understood why the rear lights were on as DRLs.

Thanks Ess_Three - will see what happens.
currently cannot even get the lights in!

Damn the outer thumb screw is a nightmare. How the devil do you get enough pressure on it to turn it out? I gather it works like a bayonet bulb, but even when I do manage to lever the spring down far enough using the hole in the bodywork just to one side, I then don't manage to actually turn it - the whole casing turns...
How did you use the molde grips Steve? Seem I am missing something obvious...
and to make it more irritating, I dropped my size 10 socket head down into the area below the light, and cannot find it.
Perhaps there should be a minimum IQ before people are allowed to work on cars...

It's a straight thread, just unscrew as you would a normal thread. Mole grips for leverage if you need...just anti-clockwise...get it going, and keep unscrewing until it comes off - don't drop it!  happy2

Was trying to undo the top part of the pin - the bit that looks like a bayonet  Embarrassed. Would have been at it all day were it not for you.  happy2

Hi All,

I just fitted the LED's to my Feb build Gti (it's in Australia so I'm not sure if they are the same as UK spec?)

the blurb I got is in Deutlish and says  the folowing;

By MJ2010 BCM KW22/2009 (Software 0537,0541)

Coding Halogen VCDS byte 18+15 =43  18 bytes Xenon VCDS

I have access to a Vagcom (but never used one) and the car isn't Xenon equipped. Does this mean in place of the code 4 mentioned for the 2009 model I need to enter 15? and how do I do this?

Any help appreciated

cheers

Hi Steve
Can you let me know if your light led on the console comes on at all any more since using the "04" code? It used to come on for a few seconds on start up with the old regular lights, but since using the code it seems to have completely disabled the check.
I'd prefer it if it would still check the remaining incandecent light - indicator and reverse light.
NOt a big deal, but perhaps there is a code that allow computer still to check the remaining lights...

Yes these will fit a 1.4tsi, I have personally fitted these to three other models than the GTI with no issue as long as the car was built after jun 2009.

Cost wise the list price for all the parts is in the region of £550. surprised
