hi, just registered so i could ask this question (sorry to revive an old thread):

HOW did you remove that spring-loaded screw?? i'm trying to remove the taillight so i can get a dent out of my fender, but i can't seem to budge the bloody thing. do i need a special tool or do i just need more pushing down of the plastic top bit?

thanks in advance!

Steve, you seem like a busy fellow, but would love some info before plunging into this one
South Africa has RHD as in UK, but not sure where car actually manufactured.

1. What importance does the manufacture week have, and is there an easy way to find this out? To be successful it seems car must be made after week 45...what differance would that make?

2. What is the difference between the RHD and LHD with reference to this conversion? I woud have though you may simply end up with a bright red reverse light, and a white fog light, but given your error warning lights that it seems you got when you had the wrong (RHD) lights, there must be more to it.

So when you got the correct LHD units, the error codes disappeared never to return?

(I would have thought the only difference would be that the reverse and fog light would be on opposites side for LHD and RHD, although why a change in position would be warranted at any rate I do not understand. Maybe just so that the fog light in not right in the face of the driver behind?)

3. You seem to have mentioned in another forum...if I read correctly...the possibility of using a hybrid mix of RHD and LHD inner untis, but I could not understand what this affected and why...or did I just misread this.

4. Some websites mention getting some "trim" items. Since you did not mention them, I gather they are not required? Any idea what they are

Many thanks for your time!

Hi Belix,

Here's some replies to your questions.

1 - Build Week

From my experience this has no impact on any of the 10 cars I have now been involved in the retro fitting of these lights.

2- LHD vs. RHD

The only difference is the location of the fog and reverse lights.

As the fog light is based on LED bulbs if you fit the wrong type of lights (like I did first due to my mistake in the way to read ETKA). you will get a bulb out fault code. Once the correct versions where installed the fault code was removed and has not returned.

I have now been running the lights for over two months with no issues.

3 - Mixed inner lights

This is required for US Spec LHD cars where no fog light is required. So by ordering the reverse inner light for a LHD and RHD car it get a solution for cars in this market.

4 - Trims

I can confirm no extra or different trims are required for this retro fit.

Hope this all helps

Thanks!
I see I just missed your group buy, but anyhow, will see what local vw charge for the units provided they have even heard of them.
Hopefully their system in linked to some international database.

Any of the cars you converted had isues after the VAGCOM code change? That's the only part I'm worried about.

No problems reported at all.  happy2

Be prepared for a shock when asking your VW Dealer for prices. Plus they probably tell you they won't work  laugh

If your interested in a set of lights we can still source them, just drop me a PM  happy2

Thanks mate, will do. Price of shipping here might cause me an annurism, but will still likely be far cheaper than dealer none the less.
Will let you know as soon as I take delivery and figure out whether it has rear fogs or not...

Hi Steve
As you said, dealer price a little rough  chicken
However, they did strangely have a set in stock and while they had some time, they tried to see whether "it was possible". They came back and said the parts will not physically fit!! jumping

I've never heard anyone have a fit issue, so was wondering:
1) Can you give me the part numbers of the ORIGINAL lights on your UK RHD golfs so I can see if outs have the same original bits
2) Did you have any issues with the actual light fitment?

Lastly, assuming the above two are solvable can you PM your price for a kit, plus P&P?
Thanks!

What do you mean be fitment issues?

On mine the fit fine, I will dig out the part numbers for the UK lights when I can get access to ETKA.

But I am 99% sure they will be the same.

If you PM me your address I can get a quote for shipping for you  happy2

Parts arrived!
From reading about the place, some folks seem to mention using code 15 at byte 18 for newer models. Mine manufactured Feb '10, so wonder if I need to use 15 instead of 4. Oh well, one way to find out!!

Edit: Seems using 15 might make the inner lights light up under braking too...
