Here's how I changed my stock Taillights for the R tinted LED Taillights  innocent

This was completed on a 09 Model UK spec car  happy2

The Parts: -

1x 5K0 945 093 Q (Inner Light)
1x 5K0 945 094 Q (Inner Light)
1x 5K0 945 095 L (Outer Light)
1x 5K0 945 096 L (Outer Light)

4 x 7N0 972 703 - LED Connector Housing
4 x 191 972 713 - Standard Taillight Connector Housings
6 x 000 979 150E - Repair Wires for LED Connector
6 x 000 979 129 - Repair Wires for Standard Taillight Connector

NOTE - For Left Hand Drive cars only the inner lights need to be ordered differently, these are part numbers 5K0 945 093 P & 5K0 945 094 P

Tools Needed: -

Soldering Iron, Solder & Heat Shrink
Cutters
8mm Socket Set with extension bar

Making the Adapters

The connections are a simple Pin 1 on Standard Taillight Connectors to Pin 1 on the New LED Connectors. The wires need to be cut down to a few cm long otherwise they just get in the way (i.e. much shorter than below)

Installing the Taillights

Pop open the boot lid and remove the two access panels

Now remove electrical connector and the two 8mm nuts (higlighted below) on each of the inner taillights to release these, they should now lift out of the tail gate.

To remove the outer taillights pull the carpet away from the back of the lights and unplug the connector. Now undo the single thumbscrew holding each of the lights in place. The light should slide out away from the bumper.

To install follow the reverse of the above plus plug in the inline adapters.

Coding

When you frist switch on the ignition you will see a few bulb out warnings.

Open VCDS and select the Central Electrics controller.

Now go into the coding option

and then long coding helper.

On Byte 18 set the value to 00100, this will set the hex value in the line above to 04.

Click on Exit and then Do it!.

Switch the ignition off and then on.

Now stand back and admirer your handy work  jumpmove jumpmove

They really do finish the GTI off looks wise.
The first time I saw a mk6 Golf on the road I thought it was a Toyota or something from behind, the stock lights are nasty and really ruin the look of the car.
The LEDs are definately on my 'to do' list.

Excellent how to though Steve  happy2

Very nice!  Did you buy your car with the backup camera installed or did you DIY it?

Hello from Canada.  drinking

Lovely job on this retrofit! Our lighting is somewhat different in Canada with daytime running lights (DRLs) etc. and a single position headlight switch (with fog). I do have Adaptive bi-xenon which include the small white brow (City light to you?) This brow only illuminates with the headlight switch "on". The xenon are the DRLs and full-on all the time.

I'm adding a Euro switch to get control of my headlights and city lights (parking lights?). Any idea if by applying this retrofit (and the Euro switch, which includes a rear fog position) whether I would also achieve rear fog? Would there be more VAG-COM programming? Additional wiring required?? And idea?

Thank you.

Hi, I think you will need to activate the rear fog if your adding the euro switch. It should be the same as the Mk5 so have a check of the main US forums and you should be able to confirm the coding need.

Let us know what you find  happy2

Thanks Steve for the excellent step by step guide.

With regards the coding with the Vag Com, it managed to fix the error with regards the brake light and indicators but i still have the blown rear fog light warning. any suggestions?

Also if you use vcds beta 912, there is a warning regarding making changes to this particular Byte 18 warning or permanent errors. any comments?
