Been wondering what the press would make of the Diesel GTI, now we know:

Saw one at the dealer today that had just been delivered, it was in black and just looked super bland tbh 

Not really sure what VW are trying to acheive with the GTD

Its just a bit nicer version of the GT TDI/GT Sport really, but those cars sold really well so you can't blame VW for trying.
It appeals to me in a strange sort of way. Lots of torque and GTI looks and interior and without the gaudy red stitching on the leather bits. With a few enhancements and some BBS wheels I think it would look okay. A bit of extra width on the wheel front should take away some of the slabsided-ness of the revised shape. Re-mapped it would make an excellent Q car.

Looks far too much like the GTI for my liking.

  this is the norm for the golf GTD/GTsport Golf models from the mk2 onwards. I still have to take a second squint/glance at every GTsport mk5 i see.
The thing i don't like of the new GTD is the price, compared to say the A3 TDI or Leon FR TDI which will both have the same engine soon and probably be cheaper.
