thought i'd given some of my thoughts on ACC having lived with it as standard on the scirocco for over 6 months and a lot of miles and given the comparison with our GTI Pirelli which was acquired at the same time, reason for the feedback is i'm sure a lot of the demo cars will have it, i think people may rave on about it even though they haven't lived with it on a daily basis, and sometimes a test drive gives a false impression when you are not 100% famiiar with such things

ACC (adaptive chasis control) has three settings, comfort, normal and sport, it alters the damping and power assisted steering characteristics and reacts differently to throttle responses (it doesn't sharpen the throttle response a commom misconception and linked mainly to people pressing sport when they want to have a play and being heavier with the right foot)

i few members know that when asked which car out of the two i prefer (taking looks out of the equation as subjective), i've been driving the GTI a lot more recently and therefore been able to contemplate the positives and the nagatives, to the surprise (mainly fellow scirocco owners) out of the two i tend to pick the GTI (its a close run thing)

over the weekend i drove both cars around a great complex of roads round by were i live, GTI then scirocco in various settings, penny dropped, i preferred the steering feel and feedback from the golf linked with its ride which inspired more confidence, the roc needs to be in sport mode to get that level of steering feel (which it does), all be it ride is firmer (not harsher and it rides better on KW springs), problem i find is you select normal to soften the ride but then compromise the steering feel, the adjustable damping does work and in some conditions car is a joy in comfort but there is a huge trade off in steering response and feedback (people's preferences are subjective on this issue), currently i'm leaving the scirocco in sport to test the theory and gauge the ride qaulity issue over a longer peiod of time, in reality its a different car in sport

so the issue is would i pay for circa £700 for ACC, the answer for me is no as in reality sport is the best setting, with the other two the steering compromises the damping benefits, i've not driven a non ACC scirocco as UK is only market where standard

another issue is bar the two vwr racing sciroccos a lot of seasoned modders have only changed the springs on sciroccos and left the dampers in tact and not gone to coilovers, no news on whether any companies are going to produce such a product

feedback is mixed from scirocco owners and i think if i just drove that and didn't divide my tiem between the two i wouldn't necessarily have picked this up, for me if it just tweaked the damping it would be a better solution (less is more)

i think it has its place but not for me, putting it as an option for the mk6 GTI is the right way forward, my view is it should be an option on the scirocco R

hope this helps and provokes some thought

Excellent review and I'm sure that's going to be a big help to those who are unsure as to whether the ACC is merely an expensive gimmick on the Golf
